The Guidance Department will regularly go into classrooms to deliver lessons that cover developmentally appropriate topics related to academic, social/emotional, or career development.

According to the Michigan Department of Education, all students should be learning the following Social-Emotional Learning Competencies: Self-Management, Social Awareness, Self Awareness, Responsible Decision-Making, and Relationship Skills. Additionally, Middle School students are beginning to think about career readiness. They will start to develop an individualized plan as well as being exposed to various career-related experiences/opportunities.
Students need to use positive communication and social skills for effective interactions; develop and maintain positive relationships; and demonstrate helpful ways to manage interpersonal conflicts. The Social Worker will be visiting all the classes to deliver lessons on Relationship Skills.

May 3: The counselors will be going into 7th grade classrooms during 5th hour to help each student create a talent portfolio. This portfolio will include strengths, areas of interest, volunteer experiences, extra curricular activities, etc. Student's talent portfolios will be established in Career Cruising (the program that is used for career exploration). This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their accomplishments and start thinking ahead.
